7 Days to Die V3.1.0 'Henpocalypse' Adds Chicken Farming to the Apocalypse

The V3.1.0 stable release of 7 Days to Die, titled Henpocalypse, is now live. A Big Beak Armor Set is noted as arriving Wednesday, though details on that content are not yet in the release notes.

What changed

The headline addition is the Chicken Coop workstation, built around a three-stage loop: catch a wild chicken in the field, carry it back to base while managing its stress, and install it in the coop to produce eggs and feathers.

The coop supports three tool slots that modify its behavior:

• Brooding Lamp — speeds up production and chicken maturation
• Chicken Run — lets chickens forage for bugs, cutting feed costs by 50%
• Nesting Box — unlocks breeding and adds nesting slots

Chickens must be fed with Rekt's Chicken Feed, crafted from Corn and Rotting Flesh. A new Chicken Stress mechanic adds risk to transport: if a carried chicken reaches 100% stress, it is dropped and a game-stage-dependent event triggers — outcomes range from attracting angered zombies to provoking angry chickens. A sandbox option lets players tune these events.

Four new chicken-centric recipes were added, including Chicken Nuggets; the source text is truncated and the remaining recipes are not documented here.

On the settings side, Sandbox Options for enemy and animal Density and Respawn rates have been split into separate day and night settings. Players with saved preset codes are advised to verify them, as invalid codes may reset some or all settings. Official Presets have been updated accordingly. Dedicated server players must manually select the Default Public Version branch to access v3.1.0.

For players who have grown weary of scavenging, the update offers a self-sustaining food and crafting resource loop that sits permanently at base — provided they can keep the chickens alive.
