Albion Online's Dragonfire Update Arrives August 31 with Ancient Lands and Dragon Raids
A major content expansion introduces layered new zones, a PvE raid dungeon, and Albion's first-ever dragon boss fight.
Albion Online's next major update, Dragonfire, is set to launch on August 31. A Dev Talk hosted by Co-Creative Director Michael Schwahn outlines what the update contains.
What changed
The Ancient Lands — a new open-world zone type reached through portals constructed by the Ashborn faction:
- Portals scale to different party sizes, including solo players
- Entering a portal matches players with groups of similar size
- The zone consists of floating islands connected by further portals, activated by defeating enemies
- Activated portals become visible to all players in the Ancient Lands, enabling both exploration and rival-group tracking
- Deeper progress yields increasingly valuable rewards: Ashborn mobs, powerful Drakes, treasures, and new Lore Fragments
The Dragon Sanctuary — a new Raid Dungeon accessed via tradable maps found inside the Ancient Lands:
- Only one party may enter at a time
- Entirely PvE; challenging mobs require powerful gear and coordinated play
- Culminates in a fight against Azaryon, the Fire Dragon — described as Albion's first-ever dragon boss
For a game that has built its identity around player-driven conflict and open-world risk, Dragonfire appears to push meaningfully into structured PvE territory while preserving the competitive awareness mechanics — shared portal visibility in the Ancient Lands — that define Albion's design philosophy.
