Backyard Baseball Hotfix and Fielding Overhaul Detailed in Roadmap #2

Backyard Baseball's development team published its second content roadmap on July 25, 2026, pairing a same-day hotfix with a closer look at what's being built for future updates.

What changed

Version 1.0.9.5 is live and addresses a single but consequential save bug:

• A fault that could prevent profiles, leagues, and stats from loading correctly after an unexpected game shutdown has been resolved.
• Saves previously affected by the bug will no longer fail to load or generate errors.

What's coming

The roadmap's main focus is a described "major overhaul" of base coverage — a system the team acknowledges has been a frequent source of player frustration. The stated design goal is for fielders to behave like coordinated teammates rather than independent actors. Two specific behavioral changes are outlined:

• Reactive positioning: If a player moves toward a base already covered by an AI fielder, that fielder will yield and clear space. When the player steps away, the AI slides back into position.
• Automatic gap coverage: If a player vacates a base they were covering, a nearby fielder will step in to fill it.

The team notes that some improvements will address edge cases while others target broader AI decision-making. Platform performance is also cited as a consideration, with PC listed as the starting point.

For players who have run into the save-loading failure, the patch is the immediate relief; the fielding work represents a longer-term fix to one of the game's more structural friction points.
