Battlefield 6 Season 4 Returns Naval Combat Across Two Maps
A new wave physics system and two distinct water environments reshape how naval vehicles play in Battlefield 6's upcoming season.
Naval warfare is returning to Battlefield 6 in Season 4, spread across two multiplayer maps: Tsuru Reef, a new map available at launch, and Wake Island, a returning franchise location arriving later in the season.
What changed
- Naval vehicles use the same control scheme as land vehicles — left stick or WASD for throttle, reverse, and turns
- A new dynamic wave system creates two distinct sailing environments: open ocean and inland waterways
- On open water around Wake Island and Tsuru Reef, roiling waves can push watercraft off course, affect weapon aiming, and occasionally generate airtime
- Those same waves can form temporary cover for ambushes and intermittently block incoming fire
- Inland waterways are calmer and more predictable, though proximity to shore brings exposure to Engineers and other land-based threats
- Beaching a vehicle — running it aground — renders it combat-ineffective as a mobile unit
- Keeping a naval vehicle in motion is flagged as tactically preferable; an idle boat is vulnerable to rival watercraft, aerial vehicles, and shore-based enemies
The rock-paper-scissors interplay between vehicle classes has long been central to Battlefield's moment-to-moment design, and the wave system adds a layer of environmental unpredictability that will force naval players to think about momentum and positioning rather than simply pointing and shooting.
