A wide-ranging August update pairs a branded aerial event with the return of a classic map and sweeping gameplay improvements across vehicles, weapons, and more.
Game Update 1.4.2.0 arrives for Battlefield 6 and REDSEC on August 18, with downloads opening at 08:00 UTC and new content unlocking at 12:00 UTC.
What changed
New content includes:
- The Top Gun event, described as the game's biggest seasonal event yet
- Two new two-seat fighter jets: the F/A-81F Super Spectre and the F-74A Seacat
- Two new aerial modes: Top Gun: Carrier Strike and Gauntlet: Fighter Sweep
- The return of Wake Island, a legendary Pacific map
- An expanded version of Tsuru Reef
- The Interdictor sniper rifle
- A new Crashed Carrier point of interest in Fort Lyndon
- CJTF Helix, a new squad unit inspired by Top Gun characters
- Event Challenges that reward Ace Medals, a limited-time currency redeemable for Top Gun-themed cosmetics
Gameplay improvements span:
- Vehicles, weapons, and gadgets
- Maps and modes
- UI and HUD
- Portal, audio, and AI systems
- Underwater gameplay
From August 18–25, Battlefield 6 will also be free to play for a limited time, offering six modes across four maps: Tsuru Reef, Wake Island, Cairo Bazaar, and Hagental Base.
For existing players, the update's breadth — touching systems from aerial combat to underwater mechanics — suggests a substantial tuning pass alongside the headline event content.
