A foundational update strips out automatic post-combat healing and replaces it with a food-based recovery system, reshaping how combat progression feels.

Developer Fen James framed the September 15 patch as the first in a planned series of combat improvements for Brighter Shores, with further updates already in the pipeline based on player feedback.

What changed

Health system

  • Maximum health has been increased, so a standard fight against a same-level foe no longer drains nearly all of it.
  • The automatic full heal at the end of combat has been removed.
  • Health regeneration is suppressed for a few seconds after taking a hit, meaning recovery effectively happens outside of combat under normal conditions.
  • Defeat now revives players at 25% health rather than full.
  • Health regenerates slowly while logged out.
  • Quest battles have been rebalanced to stay challenging against the higher health pool.

Combat movement

  • Movement speed is increased while in a combat stance.
  • Automatic routing and auto-strike timing have been adjusted to better respect player intent.
  • A brief window at the start of an attack allows cancellation by clicking to walk away.

Food

  • All food — including passively cooked items — is now edible and heals outside of combat.
  • Food stacks up to 100 per backpack slot.
  • Passively cooked food can now be stored in the cooked meals bank.
  • A new fish and chip shop has opened in Hopeport, providing an accessible healing option without requiring Chef skill progression.

The removal of the free post-combat heal is the structural pivot here: players must now actively manage resources to sustain a training session, bringing Brighter Shores closer to a conventional attrition-based combat loop.
