Dead by Daylight's Player Intent System Adds In-Trial Comms Wheel for Survivors
A new radial menu will let Survivors signal intentions mid-match — and players who want nothing to do with it can opt out entirely.
Behaviour Interactive is building a communication system for Dead by Daylight called Player Intent, designed to let Survivors coordinate during a Trial without text chat or voice.
What changed
- A radial menu ("chat wheel") lets players broadcast preset messages — such as signalling they're working on generators, requesting a heal, or suggesting Survivors split up.
- Selected messages appear next to a player's name in the HUD, keeping the main view uncluttered.
- A cooldown between messages limits spam; the cooldown increases if too many messages are sent in quick succession.
- Players can customise which messages they bring into a Trial via the Options menu.
- The system can be fully disabled from the same Options menu; disabling it prevents both sending and receiving Player Intent messages.
- An individual mute option lets players block messages from specific Survivors without disabling the system entirely.
The feature was surfaced publicly after player questions during a Reddit AMA, with the opt-out option described as a direct response to community feedback.
For players who find mid-match communication either essential or intrusive, the degree of control on offer means the system should accommodate both camps without forcing a compromise on either.
