Garden of Witches Exits Early Access with Overhauled Combat and Story Finale
Version 1.0 removes three core systems in favor of skill-level mechanics, while two new epilogues bring the narrative to a close.
Garden of Witches, the roguelike from Team Tapas, reached its 1.0 release on August 28, 2026 — ending an Early Access period during which the community contributed bug reports, balance feedback, and unexpected playstyle discoveries that shaped the game's development.
What changed
Story
- Epilogues 2 and 3 are now available, continuing from the Early Access Epilogue 1 and concluding the story of Sil and the other witches.
- New skills unlock as players progress through the Epilogues.
- Challenge content becomes available after the story is completed.
Combat system
- The Attribute, Synergy, and Rune Systems have been removed entirely.
- Their functions have been redistributed into the individual mechanics of Scissors, Spells, Imprints, and Relics.
- Scissors and Spells now carry a wider variety of per-skill mechanics, including Charging and Combo interactions.
- Builds are now shaped not only by which skills a player selects, but by how those skills are actively used.
The studio's stated rationale for the overhaul: as systems accumulated during Early Access, combat grew broader in options but narrower in practice — players often cycling skills off cooldown in predictable patterns. The redesign returns decision-making to moment-to-moment execution rather than pre-run construction alone, a shift that reframes the game's fundamental loop for returning players.
