HELLDIVERS 2 Community Raises Funds for Save The Children in Annual 'HEROES 2026' Event
A player-organized fundraiser rooted in an in-game decision from two years ago has grown into a multi-streamer charity event doubling last year's haul.
The Freedom Alliance — described in the announcement as the largest independent community for HELLDIVERS 2, with over 50,000 active members across Discord and its own website — has wrapped its annual HEROES 2026 fundraiser in partnership with Save The Children, closing on June 28.
The event traces its origin to a Major Order from two years ago, when players chose to forgo the MD-17 Anti-Tank Mine stratagem and instead rescue children trapped in Super Citizen Anne's hospital on Vernen Wells. The Freedom Alliance has since built that moment into a yearly charitable event, auctioning items signed by Arrowhead Game Studios alongside community-made goods.
What changed this year
- A Streamathon was added, organized in partnership with community figure Commissar Kai and other core members
- The Streamathon helped the event raise more than double the amount raised in 2025
- Approximately 155 community members participated in total
The announcement, authored by The Baskinator, also notes that a hot fix for the game is in progress, with further details to be shared the following week.
For players, the dispatch is a reminder that some of the most durable lore in HELLDIVERS 2 has been written not by the studio, but by the community acting on in-game choices — and that those choices can carry real-world weight.
