Just Open The Door's Update 0.8 Fixes Audio, Performance, and Skill Tree Pacing
A candid patch from a solo developer addresses several fundamental issues that should have been caught before release — from a broken volume slider to a session-long performance bleed.
Developer bike opens the Update 0.8 notes with a frank admission: chasing deeper problems meant obvious bugs slipped through. The result is a patch that corrects several issues players documented in reviews and forum threads.
What changed
Skill tree & save compatibility
- Finishing the skill tree previously took around five hours; it now takes around three.
- Skill points are awarded on a revised schedule. Existing saves will still load without breaking, but players may receive duplicate points, bypassing the new pacing. A Reset Game option is available in the settings menu for those who want the intended experience; it is not required.
Audio & settings
- The master volume slider now functions correctly. Door, explosion, missile, and laser sounds were bypassing the audio mixer entirely, rendering the slider ineffective for those sources.
- Volume, quality, fullscreen, and mouse sensitivity settings were resetting to default on every launch; they now persist.
- Sound stops when the game is minimised. The simulation continues running in the background.
Performance
- Fixed a progressive slowdown that accumulated over a session. Explosion effects were never cleaned up, stacking indefinitely — which is why restarting the game temporarily resolved the stutter.
- V-Sync is now enabled at Low and Very Low quality settings. Previously, lowering quality uncapped the framerate, increasing GPU load rather than reducing it.
For players who noticed settings that wouldn't stick, audio they couldn't control, or a game that grew slower the longer they ran it, this update addresses all three directly.
