Over The Top: WWI Overhauls First-Person View Ahead of Aug. 20 Update

Flying Squirrel Entertainment's WWI tactical game Over The Top: WWI is receiving a substantial rework of its first-person perspective, scheduled to go live on August 20. Developer Olafson describes the previous first-person mode as "an alternative way to play" — a characterization that, by implication, acknowledged its rougher edges. The overhaul is meant to correct that.

• All-new first-person animations throughout
• Proper rifle bolting mechanics added
• Improved reloading animations
• The developer describes the result as a "fully supported and intended part of the game"

A teaser is available ahead of the August 20 release. The studio also confirmed that the United States Expeditionary Forces faction is "almost ready" to arrive in the game, though no specific release timing beyond proximity to the update was stated.

Also launching on August 20: a free weekend, opening the servers to players who do not own the game. All features in the update will be free for existing owners.

For players who have found first-person mode serviceable but unpolished, the overhaul appears aimed at making it a genuinely competitive way to experience the game rather than a secondary option.
