Scale the Depths Leaves Game Jam Roots Behind With Full Launch
A 96-hour jam prototype that won GMTK 2024 has grown into a complete fishing-and-scaling adventure spanning four real-world locations.
Scale the Depths, developed by Glass Gecko Games and Pretty Soon, is now available in full — a notable arc for a project that began as a four-day entry in the 2024 GMTK Game Jam, which it went on to win.
What the full game adds over the demo
The studio describes the full release as a substantial expansion of the demo across nearly every dimension:
- 4 locations: Loch Ness, Huatulco, Outer Banks, and Point Nemo
- 100+ fish species
- More customers, boats, and character customization options
- More tools, upgrades, bait, and hidden treasures
- More messages in bottles and environmental puzzles
- More secrets, and a deeper mystery threaded through the adventure
The demo remains available, though progress will not transfer to the full game. Players who completed the demo before launch will receive unspecified in-game bonuses.
The developers note that the core loop — fishing and scaling — proved unexpectedly compelling even at jam scale, which drove the decision to expand it into a full release. By their account, it became the largest project the team has made.
For players who sampled the demo, the full game represents a considerably wider world built around the same mechanical foundation — with the added weight of a mystery the studio says runs much deeper than what the demo contained.
