SCUM's August Update Adds Underground Facility, Cloning Sickness, and Cooking Overhaul

SCUM's Into the Wild August Update, published 25 August 2026, delivers its most structurally ambitious content yet — a timed underground run, meaningful death penalties, and a reworked food system.

What changed

TEC1 Research Facility

• Three converted underground bunker entrances across the Island, each leading to a separate Facility with the same layout.
• Entry requires a Research Facility Keycard — earned through certain Master Hunter quests or found as rare loot — which is consumed on use and expires after a limited time.
• One Keycard admits an entire group. Once a run begins, the entrance locks until the Facility resets.
• A ten-minute purge timer begins on entry; the first containment door opens for 30 seconds. Players still outside when it closes cannot proceed.
• Any prisoner remaining inside when the timer expires is terminated. Exiting early requires activating a designated exit.

Master Hunter quests now include encounters with mutant bears, with exclusive rewards tied to completion.

Cooking and Food Effects

• New Heatless recipes added.
• Faster cooking times across the board.
• A Food Effects overhaul gives diet a greater role in survival outcomes.

Cloning Sickness

• Repeated respawning now inflicts a temporary debuff that worsens if the player dies again before recovering.

Stalker Outfit Pack — a separately purchased cosmetic release launching alongside the update, containing a complete outfit set and a bone tomahawk.

Taken together, the update introduces genuine stakes to both death and dungeon entry: keycards are consumed, timers are unforgiving, and dying repeatedly now carries a compounding cost.
