Squad 10.5.2 Overhauled Suppression Mechanics and Bullet Audio
A focused patch rewrites how suppression looks, sounds, and functions — with meaningful consequences for how firefights feel.
Update 10.5.2 for Squad is a narrowly scoped but substantive patch, concentrating almost entirely on suppression systems and bullet pass-by audio rather than sweeping content additions.
What changed
Suppression overhaul:
- Visual effects for suppression have been completely reworked
- Accumulation and decay rates have been adjusted
- The suppression value dealt by each weapon and projectile has been re-balanced
- VFX intensity, weapon sway, and other per-tier effects have also been re-balanced
- Suppression now prevents holding breath to stabilize a weapon, but zooming in remains possible
- Running out of breath while using the hold-breath ability now cancels weapon stabilization only — not the camera zoom. Scoped weapon zoom focus is not yet affected; the developers note this for a future update
Bullet audio:
- Snap and crack pass-by sound effects have been improved
- The transition fade distance for snap and crack sounds is now synchronized with each caliber's suppression radius
SDK (modding) changes:
- Separate suppression threshold limits added for pass-bys versus explosives, preventing pass-by audio from triggering effects reserved for explosive rounds
- Suppression Info configs expanded with more preset options and greater configurability
- Weapon sway speed can now be modified by suppression level, stamina consumption percentage, and player movement state
- The old suppression sway system has been removed
For players, the practical result is a more graduated and intentional suppression experience — one where incoming fire limits your steadiness without completely stripping camera control, and where the audio of bullets passing nearby is more closely tied to their actual threat radius.
