Stellaris 4.5 'Cygnus' Lands as the Game's Largest Bugfix Patch Ever
Nearly half of the update's 525 lines of changes trace directly to player-filed bug reports, forum threads, and community feedback.
The 4.5 "Cygnus" update for Stellaris is now available, and the developers describe it as the largest bugfix patch in the game's history.
What changed
The patch is extensive by any measure the team has previously used:
- 525 lines of changes in total
- More than 350 bug fixes, alongside stability improvements, desync fixes, and AI improvements
- ~46.7% of changes originate directly from player-flagged issues — bug reports, forum threads, Reddit posts, and Discord discussions
- The update measures approximately 3.857 "Pierres" on the studio's informal patch-note scale, a unit derived from a community in-joke about patch note length
The path to release included an Open Beta that opened in early July and went through nine separate updates before today's launch. Developer MrFreake_PDX credits that sustained feedback loop — and player contributions stretching back further than the beta — for shaping the final shape of the patch.
Cygnus is a Custodian update, meaning it is free to all owners of Stellaris. The Custodian initiative, which the developers say was founded on a commitment to community collaboration, has now been running for five years.
For players who have filed reports, posted saves, or flagged persistent issues, Cygnus represents an unusually direct line between community effort and a shipped product.
