Trail & Error Doubles Its Player Cap and Opens Public Lobbies
The July 4th update is the most substantial multiplayer expansion the game has received, pushing the ceiling from four players to eight while addressing a wide sweep of stability and balance issues.
Oberha5li Studios has shipped a notable update for Trail & Error, centered on two headline additions: public lobbies and support for up to eight simultaneous players, up from the previous cap of four.
What changed
New features
- Public lobbies added, along with a host-side kick player option
- Maximum player count raised from 4 to 8
- Run Customizer Settings introduced for greater per-run control
- Collision added to the front of the wagon
- Escape-key now closes more UI screens
- Players no longer begin a session muted
8-player infrastructure
- Stores updated to stock sufficient supplies for up to 8 players
- End-game podium and player indicators expanded beyond 4 players
- Settings UI issues at 8 players resolved
Gameplay and balance
- Gun aim radius increased
- Ghost movement speed increased
- Sandstorm duration reduced
- Lantern brightness improved
Bug fixes
- Corrected oxen attaching incorrectly to the wagon's front-left side
- Fixed duplicate death-status labels on players
- Resolved a reconnect issue that could trigger an unintended respawn after a fatal error
- Fixed camera fades appearing after re-possessing a character
- Removed collision from gravestones
- Addressed server-side weather behavior and freezing not applying correctly when entering a zone mid-weather
- Continued work on player stats issues and startup/fatal-error recovery
For existing players, the combination of public lobbies and the doubled player ceiling meaningfully lowers the barrier to finding a full session, while the surrounding fixes suggest the foundations for that larger experience have been reinforced rather than simply bolted on.
