Wartales Community Update #7 Adds Merchant Captures and Auto-Turn Skip
A September update reshapes combat pacing and introduces high-risk prisoner mechanics to the medieval mercenary RPG.
Shiro Games has outlined what's arriving in Wartales with Community Update #7, scheduled for September 7th.
What changed
- Merchant capture gameplay: Players can now roam the world hunting wealthy merchants to capture, with battles taking place across 6 new Battle Maps spread across different regions.
- 3 new armour sets: Obtainable by stealing from wandering merchants encountered in the field.
- Auto-skip turns: Units' turns can now be skipped automatically to accelerate combat, with the option to switch back to manual control at any time.
- Battle improvements: The auto-skip addition comes alongside better AI calculations, smoother camera movement, and unspecified further battle refinements.
- Prisoner consequences: Captured merchants who escape camp may return with reinforcements, ambush the party, attack during a night's rest, or end up imprisoned themselves.
- Prisoner Trust System: Reworked to be clearer and easier to understand.
Shiro Games also confirmed two additional deep-dives are coming before launch: a Prisoner Rework System feature on August 18th, and a look at "The Lair" on September 2nd.
For players who found Wartales' turn-based combat deliberate to a fault, the auto-skip option in particular signals a meaningful quality-of-life shift — one that doesn't remove tactical depth so much as let experienced mercenaries move at their own pace.
