Western Rye Day 4 Patch Adds Lantern, Reworks Smelter, and Rebalances Combat
Four days after launch, Nixalon Studios continues its rapid post-release patching with quality-of-life additions, loot tweaks, and a slate of visual and stability fixes.
Western Rye's fourth day of post-launch updates brings a notable round of additions and corrections across exploration, combat, and visual systems.
What changed
New features & quality of life
- A Lantern has been added to improve visibility during night exploration, described as a community request.
- The old furnace has been replaced with a new Smelter that the studio characterizes as better-functioning.
- The targeting reticle has been updated for improved clarity.
Gameplay adjustments
- Waking from sleep now occurs one hour later, timed to align with morning light.
- Item spawn rates inside containers have been reduced following feedback about loot abundance.
- Underwater oxygen capacity has been increased, easing drowning risk — specifically noted in relation to Mission 11, "What the Earth Remembers."
Combat & balance
- Balance tweaks applied to the Slant Rifle.
- Bison health has been adjusted.
Visual & technical fixes
- Screen glitches triggered by rainfall onset have been corrected.
- A bug causing rain cycles to repeat every two hours has been fixed.
- Sarah's bag in the opening mission is now more visible.
- Horse positioning errors and multiple stability and graphical issues have been addressed.
The studio also notes that multiplayer connectivity issues are currently being worked on. For players who found early survival too forgiving or night traversal too punishing, this patch directly targets both concerns.
