Over the past fourteen years, the story of Guild Wars 2® has been told across six expansions and five Living World™ seasons. While we're proud of this extensive content library, we're always looking for ways to improve how new and returning players access our adventures in Tyria. Today, we're launching a series of updates to our expansion bundles and the Guild Wars 2 Starter Pack to increase their overall value, streamline our offerings, and introduce some major changes to how players access Living World content. Here's is a breakdown of what has changed:Living World Season 2 is now free as part of the base Guild Wars 2 game! Like Living World Season 1, all players with a level 80 character will now have access to season 2. This change allows players to play seamlessly from the end of the core story to where Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns® picks up. Living World seasons 3 and 4 are now included in the Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns and Guild Wars 2: Path of Fire® bundle. For players who already own these expansions, any missing episodes from Living World seasons 3 and 4 will be automatically unlocked. Living World Season 5, The Icebrood Saga, is now included in Guild Wars 2: End of Dragons®. For players who already own this expansion, any missing episodes from Living World Season 5 will be automatically unlocked. Living World seasons are no longer available for individual purchase as they are either included for all players or included as part of expansions as detailed above. Guild Wars 2 WvW War Score Beta 2: Scoring Shifts Toward Active Play
The Guild Wars 2 Competitive team has published results from its second War Score beta, which ran during the May matchup. The stated goal across both betas has been consistent: move score generation toward deliberate player actions — capturing objectives, sieging, killing — and away from passive mechanics that accrue points regardless of player involvement.
What changed
Beta 2 introduced several adjustments over the first test:
Objective captures accounted for roughly 30% of all War Score generated.
Player combat contributed about 25%.
Progress ticks alone made up 5%, but combined with upgrade points, holding objectives reached 15% total — a deliberate compromise after players felt Beta 1 undervalued defense.
Keep captures were the single largest individual source of War Score, followed closely by player kills.
Some points were restored to holding tier 3 objectives, with a larger allocation added to objective tier-ups to create predictable moments of contention.
Extreme outliers, including dolyak delivery scoring, were corrected before results were assessed.
The beta also introduced placement-based match rewards.
For context, the current live scoring outside the betas runs approximately 40% player combat and 35% passive objective ticks — figures the team is evidently trying to move away from.
The team notes it shared a full retrospective on the first beta via the game's forums, and this post addresses feedback gathered since. Players who engage actively in sieging and fighting for keeps now have a clearer structural incentive to do so.
