Against the Storm Runs Free Weekend Alongside Major 1.10 Hauler Overhaul
Against the Storm is free to play on Steam from July 9 to July 13, with a sale discount available for those who want to keep their settlements running after the window closes.
The timing is notable because publisher HoodedHorse and the development team released version 1.10 — dubbed the Over-Haulers Update — at the same moment, meaning first-time players arrive at a meaningfully different game than the one that existed a week ago.
What changed
- Hauler system overhaul — the headline feature, giving players direct control over hauler behavior via the Main Warehouse UI: priority by building type, and separate toggles for carrying ingredients, products, or both
- 3 new World Map Modifiers: Guild Territory, Sacred Grove, and Ancient Spire
- Sacred Grove specifically enables settlements with 4 species — a long-requested option, now accessible through Training Expeditions
- Fishing Hut panel improvements
- Depletion progress bar added to the resource overlay
- UX improvements, bug fixes, and text adjustments
The hauler overhaul addresses one of the more opaque mid-game systems in Against the Storm, where resource movement between buildings has historically required workarounds rather than deliberate configuration. The new controls bring that layer into the open.
For anyone who has held off on the game, the free weekend offers a low-friction way to sample a city-builder that now has more legible logistics than before.
