S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Expansion 'Cost of Hope' and Update 2.0 Arrive August 20
GSC Game World has announced that Cost of Hope, the first major expansion for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl, launches alongside Update 2.0 on August 20, 2026, across PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5/PS5 Pro.
What the expansion includes
- A new storyline described as taking "dozens of hours" to complete
- Two new regions, among them the CNPP and Iron Forest
- New and returning characters
- The returning protagonist Skif, whose arc runs in parallel with the main campaign
The expansion's content is divided into two parts. The first becomes accessible shortly after leaving the Lesser Zone early in the main game; the second unlocks after completing the main story mission A Minor Incident. For those who want to reach the DLC content directly, the main menu now offers shortcuts — including an Early Start option and a Skip Ahead to The Cost of Hope option accessible via New Game → DLC Content.
Access and purchase
- Ultimate Edition and Season Pass holders receive the expansion automatically
- Standard and Deluxe Edition owners may upgrade to Ultimate Edition or purchase Cost of Hope separately as a standalone DLC
The addition of navigation shortcuts suggests GSC is aware that returning players — or those starting fresh — may want a direct path to new content without replaying large stretches of the base game.
