MapleStory Restricts Social Features for Under-18 Players in Brazil
MapleStory's v.270 update, which landed on July 22, 2026 following scheduled maintenance, introduces a set of social feature restrictions for players in Brazil who have indicated they are under the age of 18. The changes are framed as compliance with Brazil's Digital ECA — a child protection statute — and are described as temporary while an age verification system is developed.
What changed
Starting with v.270, the following features are unavailable to under-18 players in Brazil:
- Sending and viewing messages in the Chat Window or Maple Chat (even with a chat filter active)
- Chat Emoticons
- Trade Chat
- Voice Chat
- Sending and viewing messages attached to Cash item gifts
- Viewing messages displayed through Atmospheric Effect items
- Sending and viewing Megaphone messages
- Guild Bulletin and Guild Application messages
- Party Recruitment UI
- Linking a Discord account
- Viewing or adding custom chair messages
The announcement, posted by author Potaro, notes that further updates will be provided as the age verification system progresses. Once that system is in place, eligible players who verify their age are expected to regain access to the restricted features.
For affected players in Brazil, the restrictions effectively sever most avenues of in-game communication and social coordination until the verification pathway is ready.
