Imperial Ambitions Gains Cross-OS Cloud Saves and Sweeps Unit Balance
The September 5 update to Imperial Ambitions delivers two headline changes: cross-platform cloud saves and a substantial pass on unit statistics, accompanied by a handful of fixes and a localization correction.
What changed
Cloud saves & autosaves
- Cloud saves now synchronise across Windows, MacOS, and Linux.
- Autosaves are now capped at a configurable limit (default: 15); older autosaves are deleted automatically.
- The autosave limit applies only to
.autosavfiles — existing.savfiles are not affected.
Gameplay
- Units that have not spent any AP are guaranteed at least 1 tile of movement, meaning disembarking remains possible even when the total AP cost exceeds the unit's remaining points.
- Early melee units have been weakened; late ranged units have been strengthened. Specific changes:
- Conquistador: Range 3→2
- Cuirassier: HP 100→130, Armor 6→8
- Dragoon: HP 110→130
- Arquebusier: Melee Strength 90→95
- Musketeer: Melee Strength 100→110
- Line Infantry: Melee Strength 100→120, Ranged Strength 100→125
- Grenadier: Melee Strength 85→125, Ranged Strength 120→135
- Halberdier: HP 160→120
- Spearman: HP 150→100
- HP changes do not apply retroactively to existing save files.
Fixes
- Errors when a Hotseat faction is defeated are resolved.
- Improper capital-change handling is fixed.
- Faction names and start dates now display correctly in Chinese in the new game menu.
For players moving between operating systems, cloud save support removes what was previously a manual file-transfer burden; for everyone else, the unit rebalance meaningfully reshapes the mid-to-late military curve.
