Sludgineers Patch #2 Targets Performance, a Level 1 Freeze, and Late-Game Economy
Patch #2 (v1.00.02) for Sludgineers, published 30 August 2026, arrives with three distinct areas of focus: performance, a stubborn startup freeze, and late-game balance.
What changed
Performance
- Improved drone pathing performance.
- Improved sludge and gas vent performance.
- Improved collectables performance (coins, ore chunks, etc.).
- The combined result, per the patch notes, is a higher baseline frame rate and fewer lag spikes, particularly in the final levels.
Level 1 Freeze Fix
- A workaround has been added for a Steam initialization failure that caused the game to freeze on load, traced to network connectivity issues in certain regions.
- If initialization still fails, the game will now continue running — though Steam achievements and cloud saves will be unavailable for that session.
- A retry mechanism has also been added to attempt reconnection to Steam after a failed load, aiming to restore access to achievements and cloud saves.
Late-Game Balancing
- Refinery trees now include processing Yield upgrades, raising the maximum yields from 20 to 24, then to 28, per upgrade level.
- Safes now offer more Coins per upgrade level, with improved chances of Diamonds and Gold Coins at max upgrade.
- Barrel Cash Rewards and the Final Level Job Complete cash reward have both been increased at max upgrade.
Patch #3 is described as focusing on miscellaneous bugs, including Steam Deck improvements and a Mac 120 Hz monitor issue.
For players who have hit the late-game grind wall or struggled to launch the game in regions with unreliable Steam connectivity, this patch directly addresses both problems.
