Areteion 1.0.15 Overhauds AI with 120 Pre-Built Decks and Per-Olympian Ratings
The 1.0.15 update to Areteion, published on 14 August 2026, represents the most significant overhaul of its AI systems to date, touching both Versus AI and Hero's Journey modes.
What changed
Enemy decks
- All two-player modes now draw AI opponents from a shared roster of 120 pre-built decks, one per Epic and Mythological character, always fielding the cards they were built with.
- Only decks whose Olympians the player has already discovered will appear.
- Every AI opponent starts with +1 Might and 2 extra cards in hand across all modes.
- Difficulty scaling is applied on top via a flat Arete advantage and a fixed number of additional blessings granted to the AI throughout a game.
- Decks have been assigned ratings through simulated self-play.
Versus AI ratings and rewards
- Levels and strikes are gone. Each Olympian now carries its own rating, beginning at 1,200 and shifting after every game played with that Olympian's deck.
- Beating a higher-rated opponent yields more rating; losing to a lower-rated one costs more. Ratings swing widely early and stabilise with experience.
- Winning a game that pushes a rating past a milestone awards cards, capped at one milestone per game. Milestones begin 50 points apart (1,250, 1,298, 1,344…) and narrow toward 25-point intervals.
- Every Olympian has its own leaderboard. The previous single Versus AI leaderboard remains visible as Versus AI (Retired) and accepts no new scores.
Hero's Journey
- Raw bonus scaling for opponents has been removed; opponent rating simply rises throughout the run instead.
For players who found earlier difficulty curves opaque or frustrating, the shift to a transparent rating ladder with per-Olympian tracking gives meaningful long-term structure to competitive play.
