Xeno Clip 0.9.1 Completes Shift to Side-Scrolling Combat
Xeno Clip's 0.9.1 update — authored by Six and published 2 August 2026 — marks the culmination of a multi-version transition away from top-down combat toward what the developer calls SideRoom side-scrolling. The shift is not cosmetic: it touches room construction, camera behaviour, enemy navigation, boss design, and visual presentation.
What changed
Core combat
- Side-view combat pipeline is now live, with a jump / slam / dodge split and camera and spawns rebuilt for the new perspective
- 40+ handcrafted combat rooms, with platform spacing and reachability redesigned for side-view rules
- Enemy platform navigation overhauled in 0.9.0 (walk / jump / drop more stable; fewer wall-sticks and idle freezes)
Difficulty & content
- B1–B4 bosses adjusted for side-view: slower projectiles, longer telegraphs, wider attack gaps
- Challenge rooms (laser, whack, collapse variants) given clearer pacing and readability
- Reinforcements now warn before spawning; Centipede elite movement fixed
- Treasure Bug: roughly 5% spawn rate restored; wandering behaviour no longer incorrectly targets the player
Visuals
- Level backgrounds fill and follow the camera; world-tiled grass, wind sway, and ambient motes added
- Slightly closer camera zoom; shell casings are rigid-body drops with longer lifetime
- Portal spiral inhale VFX; platform decals and World 1–3 theme textures wired in
The version path from 0.8.7 through 0.9.1 traces a deliberate, staged migration rather than a single disruptive change — a discipline that should leave the game more stable for players arriving now than for those who followed the transition in real time.
