Bots to Mars Reaches v1.0.0 with Terraforming Overhaul and Save Hardening

After an early-access period, Bots to Mars has arrived at v1.0.0 in an update its developer, Deep South Milk, frames around making colony transformation "more visible, strategic, and rewarding" — with existing saves remaining compatible.

What changed

Terraforming visuals

  • Planet surfaces now develop through five visual stages, including connected lakes and oceans that expand as you build.
  • Two independently moving cloud layers appear as atmosphere and water production increase.
  • Each of the twelve named worlds — Mars, Luna, Mercury, Venus, Ceres, Europa, Ganymede, Callisto, Titan, Enceladus, Triton, and Triton — receives deterministic, unique terrain rather than shared textures. Procedural worlds follow the same principle.

Progression and strategy

  • Terraforming breakthroughs trigger at 10%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% completion; each first-time breakthrough grants a permanent +2% production bonus.
  • Every built-in world now carries its own live terraforming challenge displayed in the HUD.
  • New production chains link Ocean Seeders to Pressure Greenhouses, Pressure Greenhouses to Domed Cities, and Orbital Ring Stations to the whole colony.

Interface

  • Stepped 16-bit movement and construction feedback added while preserving the original pixel-art style.
  • Producer cards no longer resize or jump when a purchase becomes affordable.
  • Affordability progress, time-to-purchase data, keyboard navigation, and focus visibility have all been clarified.

Steam Cloud and save reliability

  • Local missions upload immediately when Steam Cloud is empty.
  • Failed cloud writes stay pending and retry on later saves or clean exit.
  • Cloud downloads now accept multiple Steamworks response formats, improving recovery on a second PC.
  • Local atomic saves and backups continue running alongside Steam Cloud.

For players mid-run, the promise of save compatibility means the mechanical and visual upgrades land without the cost of starting over.
