TASMON's Major Update Adds Hero Series Vol.3 and Rebuilt Etching System

What changed

Author BlackCatMan's September 27 update to TASMON: Taskbar Monsters arrives on three fronts: a new hero event series, a new DLC pack, and a heavily revised Etching system rebuilt from player feedback.

Hero Series Vol.3 introduces a pair-based structure. Players choose one of two pairings at the outset — Eden (Dark) with Feni (Fire), or Carbuncle (Light) with Tita (Earth) — and begin with no heroes. Clearing each of the six difficulty tiers earns a Sigil; collect all six and both heroes of the chosen pair join the roster. The final difficulty pits both fallen versions of the pair against the player simultaneously, with a click-to-target mechanic for boss selection. Completing Normal mode yields Arcana versions of the heroes; Death mode yields Century versions. Heroes recruited in Death mode and raised to Awakening 6 receive a world-unique "Hero No." Vol.3 requires clearing Torment to unlock.

A new DLC, TASMON: Hero Pack 2, adds the unchosen pair, cosmetic appearance options (Fallen / Awakened), an extra daily egg draw, ten Crystals of Turning, auto-expeditions with finds routed to an expedition pocket, and a 30% reduction in expedition time. The update notes that Vol.3 is fully playable without the pack.

Etching received the most structural work:

  • Bulk rolling in increments of 10, 30, 50, or 100
  • Results display the best value of every effect that appeared, alongside the current line, for direct comparison
  • Target rolling: set a desired effect and a stop condition; the system halts automatically on a match
  • Slot transparency: visible list of possible effects and their maximum values
  • A confirmation click required for large spends
  • Bulk and target rolling unlock after clearing Hell

A one-week window to convert heroes into Hearts is also noted, though no further details are provided in the source.

For players who found Etching opaque, the new comparison and target-rolling tools address the system's two most friction-heavy steps in a single update.

TASMON: Taskbar Monsters Launches Free-to-Play as a Desktop-Edge Idle RPG

TASMON: Taskbar Monsters, developed by BlackCatMan, launched on August 12, 2026 — after what the developer acknowledged were "a couple of last-minute time changes." The game is free to play and supports both English and Japanese interfaces.

The concept is built around unattended progression: a compact window sits at the edge of the desktop while the player works or studies, and the game's creatures — Tasmons — fight and collect eggs on their own. Player interaction is reserved for the moments between: hatching, evolving, and equipping.

What's in the game

  • 156+ species hatchable from battle-dropped eggs, spread across 10 rarity tiers
  • A Sphere Board skill system tied to level milestones, with companion power inheritance
  • Awakening mechanic: stacking duplicates unlocks up to 6 awakening stages; a fully awakened Tasmon generates a serial-numbered weapon unique to that creature
  • Combat built on six elemental matchups, three-monster parties, and gear crafting
  • An in-game Suggestion Box that feeds weekly updates shaped by player feedback

The weekly update cadence driven directly by player submissions is the detail worth watching: it suggests the game's feature set is still actively forming around its earliest community. Whether that responsiveness holds as the playerbase grows remains to be seen.
