Ascend to ZERO Launches v1.0 After Steam Next Fest Playtests
The time-freezing action-roguelike moves from demo to full release, bringing six distinct avatars and exponential level scaling to its debut launch.
Ascend to ZERO, the action-roguelike built around a literal countdown clock, has reached v1.0 as of July 13, 2026. Developer FWG_birby credits players who participated in Steam Next Fest, earlier playtests, and prior demo builds for getting the game to this point.
What the game is
Every run begins with 30 seconds on a timer that governs combat, upgrades, death, and survival. The central mechanic lets players freeze time outright — stopping nearby enemies, projectiles, weapons, and the clock itself — then resume the chaos on their own terms.
Core systems at launch
- 6 playable avatars, each with a distinct stat growth profile and special skills that meaningfully shape how a run develops
- Exponential leveling: characters can climb from level 1 into the hundreds of thousands within a single run through combat, XP, gear, and tech chips
- Flexible build construction oriented around player-defined archetypes, from glass-cannon offense to high-speed evasion
Demo still available
A v1.0 demo runs alongside the full release from July 13 through July 26 at 11:59 PM PT, giving new players a structured window to try the game before committing.
For players who endured earlier, rougher builds, v1.0 represents the version the game has been working toward — and the demo window means curiosity costs nothing for the next two weeks.
