Conan Exiles Public Beta Moves to Unreal Engine 5.8.2, Preps Iris Replication

The engine upgrade is the headline, but a new server-side replication system waiting in the wings may matter more for dedicated-server performance.

Conan Exiles - Public Beta Client

The August 20 Public Beta Client patch for Conan Exiles (AppID 931180) centers on a single substantial change: the game has been moved to Unreal Engine 5.8.2. According to the announcement, the upgrade is intended to "future proof Conan Exiles Enhanced" and serves as the foundation for a new server replication system called Iris.

Iris addresses what the team describes as a major performance bottleneck on dedicated servers — the per-frame evaluation of hundreds of thousands of game objects to push state updates to clients. It is not yet active. For this initial Public Test Client period, Iris remains disabled while the team assesses stability and general performance from the 5.8 migration alone; a later PTC update will enable it.

What changed

  • Unreal Engine updated to 5.8.2
  • Iris replication system introduced but currently disabled in PTC
  • Thralls can now sit on the Lion Throne, Jhebbal Throne, Serpentmen Throne, and Ice Throne
  • Ghurnaki Saddle dye channels adjusted; dye slots increased to 4
  • Head Hunter faction dialogue fixed — "Not Right Now" now correctly ends the conversation; "I don't know" option removed
  • Floating text removed from a Dogs of the Desert Head Hunter event camp
  • Lumen Surface Cache fixed for more stable reflections
  • Shadow flickering artifacts related to virtual shadow maps fixed
  • Texture flickering from camp tents fixed
  • Various floating foliage, node, and prop issues fixed across Exiled Lands and Isle of Siptah
  • Collision issues fixed across both maps
  • Seam running through Isle of Siptah fixed
  • Floating lava section in Well of Skelos fixed
  • Geometry holes in Cyclopean Halls fixed
  • Z-fighting with a dead body near Volary of Jhil fixed

For dedicated-server players especially, the engine migration is largely a holding pattern — the meaningful gain arrives when Iris is switched on in a subsequent patch.
