DOOM: The Dark Ages

DOOM: The Dark Ages received its fourth update on 7 July 2026, pairing a substantial free overhaul of the Ripatorium arena mode with the launch of a new paid campaign expansion, Revelations.

The Revelations Expansion

Revelations is a new campaign chapter in which the Slayer, wounded and betrayed, navigates a purgatory of the mind alongside a mysterious ally, ultimately confronting "an abomination of the gods." The expansion introduces new levels, deeper puzzles, new demons, and a new weapon — the Chain Spear — described as offering a combat system that rewards mastery with enhanced power and mobility. Revelations content in the Ripatorium unlocks after completing the Master Arenas.

What Changed in Update 4.0 (Free)

  • Ripatorium 3.0: Average passcode length for base-game encounter sharing has been shortened
  • Players can now save and load personal encounter presets
  • Continuous spawn mode added: respawn waves can be set to continuously replenish rather than requiring full enemy elimination
  • New health and ammo options: no pickups, single-use pickups, or a 5-minute respawn timer
  • Berserk slider: configurable from no pickups through unlimited Berserk
  • BFC ammo slider: 0–3 ammo configurable
  • 3 new Revelations arenas: Hell's Core, Osseus, and Classic
  • 6 new encounter presets curated by id Software using Revelations content
  • Revelations tracks added to the Jukebox
  • New Revelations tutorials added to game settings (default: on)

For players who spend most of their time in the Ripatorium, the save/load preset system and continuous spawn mode alone represent a meaningful expansion of what custom arena runs can look like.
