Exipelago Opens Beta Branch for Early Access to Upcoming Changes
Developer reiti.net is routing new features through a separate Steam branch before they reach the stable build, giving willing players a way to test and respond earlier.
The solo developer behind Exipelago has introduced a beta branch on Steam, creating a two-track release structure: changes land in the beta branch first, then graduate to the stable build once sufficiently tested.
What changed
- A new beta branch is now live; players opt in by right-clicking Exipelago in their library, opening Properties → Beta, and selecting alpha04 from the dropdown.
- Updates to the beta branch will be communicated through the game's Discord only — not through Steam announcements.
- Savegames or items created on the beta branch may not be compatible with older stable builds; the reverse (beta saves surviving a stable release) is expected to be fine.
- Workshop and content-creation work is explicitly discouraged on the beta branch, as compatibility is not guaranteed.
The motivation is straightforward: testing takes time, and this structure lets the developer gather feedback on features before committing them to the main build without destabilizing it in the meantime.
For players who can tolerate occasional bugs, the branch offers earlier access to incoming features; for anyone using mods or creating workshop content, the stable branch remains the recommended choice.
