Kaleidos

Kaleidos, the generative pattern tool, has shipped version 1.1.0 with two headline additions: a live Steam Workshop and a substantially expanded set of export targets for game engines.

What changed

Steam Workshop

  • Patterns can now be published directly from the export window
  • Every submission starts private; visibility must be manually set to Public
  • Preview images are auto-generated to fit Steam's 1 MB limit; video previews can be added manually
  • Subscribed patterns appear in the gallery immediately with a \ prefix — no restart required; subscribing again creates a new copy
  • The developer notes that Workshop patterns are parameter sets only, not shaders or executable code, and are validated by Kaleidos before loading

GameMaker target

  • A new GameMaker export is available for every pattern, including REACTION
  • Delivers a GLSL ES shader pair and a GML script capable of drawing a pattern into a room, GUI, or surface, or filling a sprite using its alpha as a mask
  • Exports as a single .yymps package by default, with an option for separate files

Other additions

  • REACTION patterns can now export to Godot, Unity, LOVE2D, and GameMaker — previously limited to image, video, Shadertoy, and web wallpaper
  • A Unity skybox export (Built-in and URP) is now available for Perlin, Cellular, and REACTION patterns, with DOME / PANORAMA options mirroring the existing Godot sky export
  • IMAGE export gains three modes: STILL (previous behaviour), SHEET (sprite sheet), and SEQUENCE (frame sequence)

For players and creators who use Kaleidos as a source for game assets, the expanded engine support and Workshop sharing meaningfully close the gap between pattern creation and in-game use.
