The July 8th update for Old School RuneScape delivers the first post-launch patch for The Blood Moon Rises, addressing rough edges in both the Maggot King boss encounter and the new weapons introduced alongside it.
What changed
Maggot King
- Ammunition fired at the boss no longer falls in inaccessible terrain; it now lands in the player arena.
- Visual distinction between projectile attacks and floor hazards has been improved.
- Elite Clue Scrolls added to the drop table.
- Lower-value drops on the regular table replaced with more valuable alternatives.
- Harvested loot now goes directly into the player's inventory rather than dropping on the ground.
- The Aranei Scout outside Castle Drakan can now draw from Death's Coffer or the player's bank when retrieving gravestones.
Crimson Kisten
- The standard attack animation has been updated; the original animation is preserved for the Stab attack style following player feedback.
- Other attack styles use a heavier animation; the Special Attack retains its ground-smash effect.
- Now correctly classified as a spiked weapon.
- Special attack now correctly rolls against an NPC's crush defence.
Vampyre weapon balance
- Vyrewatch sentinels and Venators have increased Ranged Defence, pulling Blisterwood stakes closer in line with other Blisterwood weapons.
- The Sunspear now grants 25% increased accuracy (up from 0%) and 50% increased damage (up from 25%) against Vampyres.
- A fix for Seeker Arrows and their +20 Ranged Attack bonus appears in the source but was truncated before completion.
Taken together, the patch smooths out the most disruptive friction points in the new content while nudging weapon choices toward more even footing.
