Old School RuneScape's Summer Sweep Up Reshapes Gauntlet Preparation
A batch of Gauntlet and PvM changes overhauls how players gather resources and craft gear inside the activity, with tighter speed-run thresholds raising the bar for achievement hunters.
The July 22nd Summer Sweep Up update for Old School RuneScape delivers a focused set of Gauntlet preparation improvements alongside new Maggot King Combat Achievements.
What changed
Gauntlet layout and enemies
- Four demi-boss spawns are now guaranteed at the north, east, south, and west-most rooms from the centre; specific demi-bosses remain random.
- Demi-boss attack range reduced from 16 to 10.
- Non-demi-boss enemies now share standardised defensive stats, removing the incentive to selectively hunt one enemy type over another.
- Weapon frames are guaranteed from the first low-tier NPC kill.
Resource changes
- Phren Bark, Crystal Ore, and Linum Tirinum are now stackable.
- Crystal Shards are automatically placed in inventory and drop in a narrower quantity range for more consistent accumulation.
Crystal Shard crafting costs adjusted
- Tier 1 weapon: 0 shards (down from 20).
- Tier 2 weapon: 50 shards (down from 60).
- Tier 1 armour piece: 50 shards (up from 40).
- Tier 2 Body armour: 100 shards (up from 80).
- Tier 2 Leg or Helmet armour: 50 shards (down from 80).
- Tier 3 armour piece: 100 shards (up from 80) — intentionally kept costly so Tier 3 remains a comfort trade-off rather than a default.
Speed achievement thresholds tightened
- Gauntlet Speed-chaser now requires a sub-4:45 completion (down from 5:00).
- Gauntlet Speed-runner now requires sub-3:45 (down from 4:00).
- Corrupted Gauntlet Speed-chaser threshold also updated (source text truncated before the new value).
Taken together, the changes smooth out the preparation phase while deliberately preserving meaningful trade-offs between gear tier and clear speed.
