SAND: Raiders of Sophie Patch Incoming, Gear Matchmaking Addressed
tinyBuild outlines a stability-focused update in testing and responds to community friction over a planned matchmaking system.
Developer tinyBuild-Jay published a mission update on July 1, 2026, confirming that the next patch for SAND: Raiders of Sophie is currently in testing and on track to release within the week.
What's in the update
According to the post, the patch targets the most commonly reported player issues from the preceding week or so:
- Duplication bug fix
- Server stability improvements
- Movement and terrain fixes — including getting stuck on ladders and rocks
- Fix for invisible doors and railings after repairing them
- Balance changes and fixes
- UI quality-of-life improvements
One conspicuous absence: the bug placing solo players into team lobbies. The developer describes this as among their highest priorities but acknowledges it is proving more complicated than anticipated. It may ship in this update or slip to a subsequent patch or hotfix.
Gear-based matchmaking
The post also addresses community concern over a gear-based matchmaking system previously announced in the roadmap. tinyBuild states the intent is to introduce the system "as carefully and as non-invasively as possible," citing awareness of how similar systems have misfired in other extraction shooters. The post begins responding to specific community objections — including the concern that gear-gating progression would make advancement feel meaningless — though the source text cuts off mid-response.
For players currently experiencing stability and terrain frustrations, relief appears close; the solo-matchmaking fix, however, remains a work in progress.
