SAND: Raiders of Sophie

Seven days after opening, SAND: Raiders of Sophie has drawn over 250,000 players — and a corresponding volume of bug reports. Update #2, published July 2, works through the most common complaints submitted during that first week.

What changed

Character & movement

  • Further improvements to the character controller, covering terrain-stuck issues, parkour, and general movement
  • Toggle and Combine Sprint settings now function as intended
  • The grenade pin no longer pulls automatically under Outlaw controls

Enemy AI — Upiors

  • Upiors now have collision with the player
  • Movement is described as less twitchy and more responsive
  • Upiors can now operate cannons (excluding shotguns) and will vacate them when a player approaches

World & visuals

  • Hit registration improved
  • Occlusion on trampler compartments improved (some edge cases remain, flagged for a future update)
  • A gas giant has been added adjacent to Sophie
  • Flickering names on the landing cutscene are fixed
  • Several pop-up designs revised

Progression & multiplayer

  • Fixed a bug where an expedition would end for one player even while teammates remained alive, which also caused loot not to be received
  • Players can no longer enter compartments by sliding on entrance group ladders
  • Matchmaking preferences fix is noted, though the source text cuts off before the full description
  • Crew compartment respawn and repair kit door-state bugs resolved

For a game still in its first week, the patch prioritizes the kind of friction — sticky terrain, broken sprinting, solo-ejection from co-op runs — that quietly erodes player trust.
