The Week on Steam: A Flood of Launches, and the Patches That Follow
A dense release wave broke across Steam this week, and the studios that shipped were already at work the next morning.
The pattern this week was almost mechanical: a game launches, its community reports what breaks, and a hotfix lands within hours or a day. It happened often enough that it defined the week's texture — not the launches themselves, but the velocity of the loop between release and repair.
Launches Worth Noting
Several games arrived at full release. ReStory: Chill Electronics Repairs crossed 100,000 copies sold and 15,000 concurrent players within its first 24 hours, with its developer noting that a first update was already in progress before the numbers were even fully in. Expeditions: Samurai — the fourth entry in the Expeditions series, built over nearly four years — entered Early Access, marking a return for a studio that had kept quiet until an announcement two months prior. Gemblades released as a full deck-building game, and Miseria launched as a dungeon-descent roguelite. Bobbitz, a no-fail-state town-builder described as "paint a room, the little guys carve it out," launched with a two-week discount. GRAIN ROT and Lucky Shot — the latter positioning itself within the Balatro-adjacent space — also went live.
The Hotfix Economy
Almost every game that launched this week shipped a patch within 24–48 hours. Gemblades issued Hotfix 1.01 the day after release, correcting card logic errors including a Professor card that gave Gold instead of Gems. Shroud of the Woods by Bullet Ant Games patched twice in two days: first to raise flashlight brightness based on player feedback, then to fix a fog rendering bug introduced by that very patch — the fog had turned white, "completely ruining the visuals." Cellar Keeper corrected Chinese localization and a typo on a Sangiovese bottle label. Gunstoppable shipped Patch 28 — its first post-launch patch, numbered to reflect the full development count — just three days after going live.
Platform and Infrastructure
SteamOS 3.8.25 Beta rolled out for Steam Deck's Beta and Preview channels, carrying a known issue with degraded performance when composition is required, such as when FSR is enabled; Valve noted this issue is already resolved in the stable release. A separate Steam Beta Client update fixed Steam Workshop items not updating properly.
Larger Games, Smaller Moves
Foxhole previewed Update 66, described as a quality-of-life and balance pass following the Airborne update, with a confirmed launch date of August 18th. Crimson Desert issued patch 1.17.00 with bug fixes and stability improvements across platforms. Battlefield 6 published its June anticheat metrics, noting that the season provided data informing future enforcement, including an upcoming TPM 2.0 requirement.
Foxhole's Update 66 is scheduled for August 18th.
