Theocide v0.2.9: Ranked AI Fill-In, FPS Cap, and Matchmaking Fixes
A small but carefully considered update patches ranked queue silence, adds a frame-rate ceiling, and cuts the wait for abandoned opponents from a minute to seconds.
Theocide's v0.2.9 update, published 26 July 2026, addresses three distinct pain points: a broken ranked queue that could strand players indefinitely, a missing frame-rate control, and a slow disconnect resolution that punished the wrong person.
What changed
Ranked matchmaking
- If no human opponent is found within 60 seconds, the game now pairs the searching player against an AI opponent instead of waiting indefinitely.
- The AI match counts as a full ranked game — win gold, rating changes, and replay saving all function identically to a human match; quitting still concedes.
- The developer describes this as a temporary measure while the player base grows.
- The queue now monitors its own connection, reconnects automatically on a brief drop (displaying a RECONNECTING state), and surfaces a clear error message if reconnection fails — replacing the old behaviour where the 'Finding match' counter ran forever while the server had quietly forgotten the request.
Disconnects
- Leaving a match now reaches the server immediately, ending the game for the remaining opponent at once rather than after up to a minute of watching a disconnected marker.
Settings and UI
- A Video settings FPS Cap has been added, ranging from 10 to 500 frames per second or Uncapped; the setting takes effect immediately and persists between sessions. Uncapped remains the default.
- A Discord button has been added to the main menu's bottom-right button row, opening the community server invite in a browser; if a fullscreen game cannot hand off to the browser, the invite link is copied to the clipboard instead.
Taken together, the changes make ranked play meaningfully more reliable — both for players staring at a frozen queue and for those left waiting when an opponent walks away.
