Beghost v2.10 Overhaults Text System and Squashes a Clutch of Bugs
Developer vidboy has shipped v2.10 of Beghost, describing it as "a larger update that changes some underlying systems within the game." The headline addition is a full overhaul of the game's text architecture — rebuilt from the ground up to support multiple languages. Only English is selectable right now, but the scaffolding is in place for more to follow.
What changed
New features
- Underlying game text system overhauled for multi-language support
- Settings menu reorganised into three categories: Game, Graphics, and Audio
- Descriptions added for every setting
- New settings: Language, Pause Game on Focus Loss (default: on), and Bee Alerts Overhead (default: off)
- All fonts updated to support multiple languages
- Inventory screens adjusted to accommodate longer text descriptions
- Main menu song and stairwell 2 song now loop correctly
Bug fixes
- Player sprite no longer draws on top of certain entities incorrectly
- Opening the settings menu with a PlayStation or Nintendo Switch controller could break cutscenes — fixed
- First ghost encounter music bleeding into subsequent encounters — fixed
- Pot-pushing sound effect persisting through menus and dialogue — fixed
- Player misalignment during the first spike trap cutscene — fixed
- Crash when collecting a secret treasure with no music playing — fixed
- Crash from an unintended solution that let players avoid spike damage in a specific scene — fixed
- Players could bypass a point-of-no-return warning on Level 3 — fixed
- Minor script adjustments; no new typos
For players mid-run, the controller cutscene fix and the looping music corrections are the most immediately noticeable gains; for everyone else, the groundwork laid here will matter most if localisation arrives.
