The Lantern of the Laughless Saint

NuclearSnake's Update 17 for The Lantern of the Laughless Saint is one of the broader patches the game has seen, reaching into weapon handling, enemy behaviour, alchemy, crime, and world geometry in a single release.

What changed

Weapons & Spells

  • A new hotkey (R on keyboard, B on gamepad) toggles between an equipped weapon and a spell
  • Number keys 1–8 now act as hotbar shortcuts on PC
  • The radial wheel now selects favorited weapons rather than equipped ones
  • Tapping the sheathe button toggles sheathing; the legacy equip system remains accessible in gameplay settings

Combat

  • Enemies are described as "much more accurate" with attacks, with tuning adjustments made to offset the change

Alchemy & Potions

  • Six new effects added: Night Eye, Silence, Slow, Jump, Dispel, and Drain Fatigue
  • Dispel removes all non-alchemy overtime effects
  • Potions now come in four quality levels, distributed through chests and vendors
  • The alchemy interface no longer reveals shared effects for unknown ingredients

Rest & Exploration

  • Resting restores health when enemies are absent; hostile areas can interrupt sleep, with risk scaling to the location
  • Autorun added (default Q on keyboard, unbound by default on gamepad)
  • Underwater kelp forests and coral added, with ingredients noted for a later patch
  • Two new dungeons in the yellow fungal area; two high-level encounters near Magdal's Rest

Systems & UI

  • An Evidence Chest crime system places stolen items in locked chests in Henrik's and Tintentan's houses, or in guards' inventories if caught outside town
  • Weather volume slider added
  • Notifications for sprinting while overencumbered or casting while silenced
  • Disconnect alerts added for host and client

Taken together, the update asks players to rethink moment-to-moment decisions around combat, rest, and resource management rather than treating any single system in isolation.
