War Thunder Infantry CBT Enters Third Phase with Largest Map Yet
A new Central African location, revised Arcade Battle markers, and expanded weapon rosters headline the latest closed beta test for War Thunder's infantry mode.
Gaijin Entertainment has opened applications for the third phase of War Thunder's Infantry closed beta test, introducing a range of additions and revisions drawn from earlier testing rounds.
What changed
New map — Kivu:
- Set in Central Africa, Kivu is described as the largest map to appear in an Infantry CBT to date — roughly four times the size of previous locations.
- The 64-vs-64 format (128 players per session) returns, supported by new server optimizations.
- New faction-specific gear and character appearances have been created for this setting.
Weapons and vehicles: Each faction receives a dedicated arsenal for Kivu testing. The U.S. side includes small arms such as the M4A1, M16A4, XM5, TAC-50, M249 Para, SCAR-L, MAC-11 PDW, and M110 SDMR, alongside the M1A2 SEP V2, LAV-AD, and AH-64A. The Soviet roster covers the AK-12, AK-74M, AK-15, KSVK, Kord 6P67, RPK-74M, PP-19, and SVDM, with the T-90M, 2S6, and Mi-28N as vehicles. Specialized weaponry — pistols, shotguns, drones, RPGs, and MANPADS — is excluded from this stage.
Arcade Battles marker rework:
- Markers no longer appear through bushes or at long distances.
- The intent, per the announcement, is to make markers a confirmation aid for enemies already visible — not a detection tool for targets otherwise out of sight.
For players who sat out the first two phases, the third testing window represents an opportunity to engage with the mode on its most ambitious map configuration so far.
