DELTARUNE Chapter 5 v0.0.253 Fixes Softlocks, Adds Boss Difficulty Toggle

Toby Fox's team published version 0.0.253 of DELTARUNE on July 31, 2026, for PC, Mac, and PlayStation. The chapter version number can be verified on the bottom right of the file select screen.

What changed

New Chapter 5 features

• After losing to the Shadow Crystal boss, a Pink Bomb appears outside the arena. Speaking to it offers two options: Nicer (boss bomb attacks gain targeting indicators and detonate 1/6th of a second later) or Meaner (all boss attacks deal 25% more damage and a couple of attacks move slightly faster).
• Regardless of chosen difficulty, the bomb explosion hitbox activates 1 frame later than before.
• Malius now plays an animation when fusing items.

Bug fixes across chapters

• Chapter 2: Disconnecting an audio device during music-synced sequences no longer causes a softlock; losing to Queen no longer consumes items without refilling them; a Downed character no longer remains Downed after Queen is defeated.
• Chapter 3: A softlock tied to a specific order of collecting the Power Croissant and saving Lancer in Board 1 is resolved; two softlocks involving enemies converted to pushable objects are fixed; a crash when Kris is Downed at the start of Tenna's final attack has an attempted fix.
• Chapter 4 / Chapter 5: Susie's magic was incorrectly upgraded to BetterHeal upon fighting the Second Sanctuary boss — this is corrected, and the fix carries forward into Chapter 5. The BlackShard at the cliff is no longer blocked by possessing the BlueRibbon. Spamton's box no longer appears at the Cliff. Players can no longer bypass the chase sequence before meeting the Old Man.

For players who have encountered any of these softlocks or the Susie healing inconsistency, the patch resolves long-standing friction points that could strand progress entirely.
