Dice Rogues 1.4 Raises the House's Game with Smarter Reroll Logic
An overhaul of the House's decision-making dramatically increases mid-game difficulty, while a round of bug fixes tightens the overall experience.
The headline change in version 1.4 of Dice Rogues is a fundamental rethink of how the House plays against the player. Previously, the House operated on a "keep rerolling while the maximum face is possible" heuristic — a rule the developer HutchAlpha describes as performing only about 12% better than a baseline in internal simulations. The new system evaluates the expected value of the House's current dice before deciding whether to reroll, reaching approximately 43.5% improvement — matching the simulated optimum.
The practical consequence is steep. By round 20, the House's target score rises to roughly 3,390 points, up from approximately 2,360 under the old logic. HutchAlpha notes the simulations do not account for player builds, shop purchases, or bonuses, leaving open the question of whether every viable strategy remains so.
What changed
- House now rerolls based on expected value rather than maximum-face chasing
- Fixed a post-F5 refresh bug that could block the game entirely
- Fixed the Collect button being usable multiple times
- Fixed missing effect names during collection
- Improved bonus drag-and-drop placement and reordering
- Fixed shop buttons shifting position unexpectedly
- Added a small indicator distinguishing instant bonuses from collectible bonuses
- Several additional undescribed bug fixes
Existing difficulty weightings remain unchanged for now, though the developer is monitoring real-game results — a reasonable caveat given that simulations and live player builds rarely tell the same story.
