ORION: Prelude Developer Opens Discussion on Overhauling 251 Achievements
A public forum post from developer PRAZ lays out three competing philosophies for how the game's achievement system might evolve alongside new content.
Developer PRAZ has opened a community discussion about the future of ORION: Prelude's achievement system — currently sitting at 251 achievements — ahead of planned work on what's being called "Achievements 2.0."
No decisions have been made. Instead, PRAZ has framed three distinct paths and invited players to weigh in.
The three options on the table
- Modernize Existing — Keep all 251 achievements but rewrite any that need fixing or repurposing for new content. The risk: players who already unlocked a repurposed achievement may feel their unlock was retroactively altered.
- Legacy Preservation — Leave achievements 1–251 untouched and accessible via a "Prelude2015" branch, while new achievements (numbered 252 onward) cover new development. The drawback: players would need to switch branches to pursue the full set, and some original achievements may already be genuinely broken.
- Auto Grant — Leave the achievement list as-is, but automatically grant any achievement tied to deprecated content or systems that no longer function. The concern raised is that auto-granted unlocks can feel unearned.
PRAZ notes the core tension clearly: completionists risk being locked out of 100% if legacy content breaks, while any modification to existing achievements risks undermining the meaning of historical unlocks.
For long-time players with significant achievement progress, the choice of path will determine whether that history is preserved, restructured, or quietly rubber-stamped.
