War Thunder Adds Scimitar Mk.2 as British Rank VI Event Light Tank
The Scimitar Strike event introduces an armored-up reconnaissance vehicle with a reversible transmission and a clip-fed 30 mm autocannon — earned through play, not the store.
What changed
Blizzard Wulf's announcement marks the arrival of the Scimitar Mk.2, a new event vehicle for Great Britain in War Thunder, unlockable through the Scimitar Strike event that began on July 23, 2026.
The Mk.2 is a direct evolution of the Scimitar already in the game, with targeted upgrades that shift its role slightly toward survivability without abandoning its reconnaissance identity.
Key differences from the existing Scimitar:
- A new turret and additional composite armor on the sides, offering improved resistance to smaller-caliber guns and, with some luck, early-generation ATGMs
- Slat armor screens added as further protection
- A new engine and automatic transmission with a reversible gearbox, enabling rapid repositioning and retreat
- Top speed of 80 km/h on paved roads, preserving the light tank's mobility despite the added weight
Armament:
- 30 mm cannon firing APDS rounds
- Effective against side armor of most tanks, and frontally capable against many SPAAs and light vehicles
- The three-round clip feed system limits rate of fire — a trade-off carried over from the original Scimitar
The additional armor comes at a weight cost, but the new drivetrain compensates. For players who already know the base Scimitar's playstyle — flanking, objective pressure, target selection discipline — the Mk.2 offers a marginally more forgiving version of that same formula.
